the battle for a foothold
The South Korean citizens that lived near the 38th Parallel were forced to relocate to the South Korean city of Pusan. This was because of the 100,000 North Korean soldiers that invaded the 38th Parallel. All South Korean residents were already evacuating the area and fell back to Pusan. To assist the South Korean army, most U.S. soldiers were stationed at Pusan to defend the area. The Battle of the Pusan Perimeter changed the course of the war. There were two outcomes from the victory of Pusan. After the battle ended, South Korean and U.N. forces have retaken the 38th Parallel as well as a fraction of the North Korean territory. Also, becoming the victors of the Battle of the Pusan Perimeter the United States were simultaniously victorious and disgraced. They were victorious by defending the Pusan Perimeter but disgraced by sending in young men that were undertrained, underclothed, and were not given enough weapons or ammunition. However, they successfully defended the Pusan Perimeter which had changed the course of the war by surprisingly reducing the North Korean's military force and overwhelming the small posts defending the 38th Parallel and took siege part of North Korea.
